Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu, a municipality founded in 1740, where a significant part of our history unfolded. On November 23, 1837, the Patriots defeated the British army at St-Denis, a unique victory that helped make this village the cradle of democracy in Canada. The local identity is marked by these historical events. A unique museum, the Maison nationale des Patriotes, is dedicated to them and offers a wide range of guided tours of both the museum and the village center.

The local treasures of Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu are varied: architectural, historical, agricultural, natural, and religious. The church square forms one of the most typical ensembles, and the church itself is a masterpiece of Quebec religious architecture. A heritage trail allows you to discover all these many attractions.

Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu is a very active municipality, both economically, touristically, and agriculturally. Indeed, there are numerous businesses offering all services locally: restaurants, guesthouses, shops, artisans, and more. Particularly noteworthy is the Chez Nelson bistro, a citizen cooperation initiative.

You can cross the river to Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, just opposite, by car on a charming little boat in the summer, which locals call “le bac. »
