The Gentle Beauty of the Saint Lawrence River Estuary.
A village of cheerful resort living…
As spring arrives, visitors from nearby areas slowly make their way into this beautiful village, stopping at Anse Park or Grèves Park, driving slowly under the tall trees lining the road, and strolling along the village’s heart at the pier. The residents of Portage also come to walk or bike along the River Road. Greetings are exchanged, smiles abound, and Portage comes back to life after the winter snows, which saw villagers skating and playing hockey on the outdoor ice rink at the sports chalet, sliding down the slope at great speed, skiing, or snowshoeing in a magical landscape, with fabulous views of the river covered in glistening ice sparkling in the sun.
Here, the salty air, in Notre-Dame-du-Portage!
In spring, flower beds will bloom again, and summer activities will be back in full swing. Near the municipal pier, the heated saltwater pool and the beach will welcome swimmers from nearby areas. Kayaks and zodiacs will venture out onto the water, towards the Pilgrims, in search of belugas… Picnics will be enjoyed by the sea, walks will be taken on the beach, and the history of the Portage trail, which once connected Notre-Dame-du-Portage to Acadia, will be learned.
The tourist vocation, from yesterday to tomorrow…
The presbytery has been transformed into a meeting place and pizzeria to combine pleasure with utility, the Auberge du Portage and Auberge-sur-Mer, and numerous guesthouses dotted along the River and Mountain roads, welcoming tourists thirsty for salty air, relaxation, and sunsets.
In one word: unmissable!
