Expansive Views of the River.
Located on the Chemin du Roy (the first road of New France opened in 1737), along the Saint Lawrence River near Trois-Rivières, Champlain (named in honor of the founder of New France) is one of the oldest localities in Quebec.
Since the 19th century, Champlain has also become a place of leisure, where one can admire the large ships passing through the channel. It was also a favored residence for long-haul sailors.
The village boasts over 200 heritage buildings, including the imposing church, classified as a historic monument, which contains several paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. The area surrounding this church offers a wide range of exceptionally preserved architectural specimens. The municipality has also buried the electrical wires in the heart of the village core, making the landscape free of any visual irritants.
